AIRCRAFT DESCRIPTION

This outstanding civil aircraft is based in Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brazil and is operated by Skylift Táxi Aéreo, Ltda.  This relatively low total-time aircraft has just over 10,000 total airframe hours since new.  SH-1951 features Honeywell (Garrett) TPE 331-6 engines rated at 840 SHP rather than the lower powered TPE 331-2 engines installed on most other Skyvan aircraft. The engines are mid-life with an overhaul interval of 6,000 hours and have low time since Hot Section Inspections, which were completed in September 2004.

The Shorts SC-7 Skyvan is a twin turbo prop STOL utility aircraft used in a variety of roles including passenger transport and medical evacuation. The Skyvan is an excellent cargo aircraft for small package, palletized, or oversized freight. The aircraft excels as a skydive platform with its roomy cabin and large rear door that can be opened in flight.  It can be configured to carry up to 19 passengers.  The maximum payload is 4,600 lbs. (2,086 kg).

SH-1951 was originally registered in the United States as N52NS; and then exported to Canada in 1994 and registered as C-FSDZ.  Since 1999, it has been registered in Brazil as PT-PQD. The current operator boasts of the capabilities of the –6 powered Skyvan, particularly in the skydive Drop Zone (DZ) transport role. “In six years of operation we find very nice numbers for the Skyvan. We can do 3.5 loads/round-trips per hour carrying up to 23 skydivers (average 20 per load) totaling 70 pay slots per hour! This aircraft is a great money-maker for an active DZ operator”.
